‘Substances Hazardous to Health’ are substances that are classified as “very toxic, toxic, harmful, corrosive or Irritant” according to REACH, a European Union regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, which came into force on 1st June 2007.

One of the main aims of REACH, the Chemicals Act 2008 and Chemicals (Amendment) Act 2010, and the COSSH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Training) is to provide a high level of protection for human health and the environment from the use of chemicals, in order to protect all the people working in situations and environments that might put their health at risk.
